A month or so ago, when I logged back on to my Redbubble account for the first time in months, I discovered that they’d added stickers to their product line. Not just any stickers, but die-cut stickers. I haven’t gotten around to ordering any yet, but they look good enough on screen.

I would’ve figured that individual die-cutting would be prohibitively expensive for a POD (print-on-demand) outfit. A printer can’t bulk order thousands of blanks to print on as they would with the buttons, magnets and round stickers that you see at places like Zazzle and Cafepress. Maybe they figured out a way around the extra expenses, or maybe I have no idea what I’m talking about. The latter possibility is the most likely one.

I’ve been working on updating my Zazzle shop with my newer designs. They have way more products than Redbubble, which sucks in a way because with Zazzle I have to create several different files to fit the products, and it takes a lot longer to get those products correctly customized, tagged and added to the… Read More »

I wanted this one to look a little bit more organic than the other designs I’ve been working on recently, so broke out the Wacom tablet to hand-draw parts of it in Illustrator. I don’t have a lot of experience working with a tablet, but I managed to do a fair job drawing the clouds by hand instead of using the shape tool. Also, creating the city skyline wasn’t anywhere near as painful as I thought it would be. (Yeah, I did use the shape tool for that.)

I started this one after finishing “Blue Heart Woman.” I was thinking about doing a series of these, but I probably need to move on to other challenges to broaden my experience with vector design. That said, I think I’m really starting to get the hang of drawing with vectors as opposed to relying on clipart or inking, scanning and auto-tracing pencil drawings, which I hate doing. And yes, I said auto-trace, not live trace. My bank account keeps telling me that CS1 is suitable for my needs, and I feel obligated to listen.

The weekend’s coming, which gives me two days to come up with and complete a new project. Real life sucks.

Well, it’s been almost a year since I’ve updated this site, but I’ve picked up the art bug again after so long and I figure it’s time to freshen things up a bit. Here are a couple of new shirt designs that managed to get featured (hooray!) at Redbubble:

    Kawaii Kitty Valentine Shirt

    Blue Heart Woman Vector Shirt

There’s definitely a bit of a stylistic jump between the two designs. I’m just playing around and seeing what works. Plus, I’ve been on a bit of a “kawaii” binge for the past few weeks (more on that later).

    More to come.

This is my home on the web, art portfolio and shop. Kick back and have a look around. Buy something if it floats your boat. Some of the stuff here may contain a bad word or two or some artistic boobage. You have been warned.
